Shuttle Nest/Parts Catcher Assembly

This type of end of arm tooling is recommended for parts that lie horizontally (parallel) to the lathe centerline, without any positioning assistance, and that do not require sensitive handling after machining. These parts typically roll, slide, or hang by their heads on their own at a minimum incline of 20 degrees. These types of parts can be nested easily and can be inserted into the work holding device to maximum depth of 6 inches. The parts catcher, mounted directly ahead of the nest, provides the most efficient unloading method. Upon entering the work envelope, the parts catcher assembly advances to the spindle centerline and the finished part is ejected into the parts catcher. The shuttle nest then advances to the load position and the raw part is placed in the work holding.

Upon exiting the work envelope, the parts catcher places finished machined parts, via a trap door, onto a Toellner-supplied conveyor that leads to an accumulation table or other accumulation system specified for he application. Use of a parts catcher requires a through-spindle part ejector supplied by Toellner. Please note: For each separate part diameter to be loaded, an individual nest or gripper jaw set must be constructed.

Opposing Gripper Assembly

Opposing gripper end-effectors are recommended for holding parts in a precise attitude while they are shuttled into the work envelope. Ideal for shorter parts that do not easily lie horizontally and that require sensitive handling after machining. This gripper assembly contains two grippers opposing each other on a 3-position wrist (0, 90, & 180 degree stop positions) mounted on a z-axis slide. Upon entering the work envelope, the unload gripper advances to the spindle centerline and removes the finished part. The gripper assembly then rotates 180 degrees to the load position and the raw part is placed in the work holding via the load gripper. Upon exiting the work envelope, the unload gripper, in a controlled manner via the 3-position wrist, places finished machined parts gently onto a Toellner-supplied conveyor leading to an accumulation table or other accumulation system specified for the application. Please note: For each separate part diameter to be loaded, an individual nest or gripper jaw set must be constructed.

Adjacent Gripper Assembly

Adjacent Gripper end of arm tooling / end-effectors are best suited to holding parts in a precise attitude while they are shuttled into the work envelope. They are ideal for shorter parts that do not easily lie horizontally. This type of gripper assembly contains two grippers adjacent to each other and mounted on independent z-axis slides. Upon entering the work envelope, the unload gripper advances to the spindle centerline and removes the finished part. The load gripper then advances to the load position and the raw part is placed in the work holding device. Upon exiting the work envelope, the unload gripper places finished machined parts onto a Toellner-supplied conveyor leading to an accumulation table or other accumulation system specified for the application. Gripper/Parts Catcher Assembly

A combination gripper and parts catcher is ideal for holding parts in a precise attitude while they are shuttled into the work envelope if they do not require sensitive handling after machining. They are ideal for shorter parts that do not easily lie horizontally. Gripper/parts catcher assemblies consist of one gripper, mounted on a z-axis slide, adjacent to a parts catcher. This end of arm tooling, or end effector, part handling option allows two operations to be completed on a single spindle. It is ideal for parts that lie horizontally relative to the lathe centerline without assistance. These parts typically roll, slide, or hang by their heads on their own at a minimum incline of 20 degrees and can be inserted into a work holding device to maximum depth of 6 inches. After a first machining operation is complete, the part is ejected back into the shuttle nest, rotated 180 degrees, and then reinserted into the work holding device for a second machining operation. After the second machining operation is complete, the parts catcher assembly advances to the spindle centerline and the finished part is ejected into the parts catcher. The shuttle nest then advances to the load position and the raw part is placed in the work holding device. Upon exiting the work envelope, the loader places finished machined parts onto a Toellner-supplied conveyor leading to an accumulation table or other accumulation system specified for the application. Gripper with 180° Part Rotation & Reload

This end of arm tooling part handling end effector option allows two operations to be completed on a single spindle. It is recommended for holding parts in a precise attitude while they are shuttled into the work envelope. After a first machining operation is complete, the gripper turns the part 180 degrees and reinserts it into a work holding device for second machining operation. After the second machining operation is complete, the unload gripper, depending advances to the spindle centerline and the finished part is removed from the work holding. The load gripper then advances to the load position and the raw part is placed in the work holding device. Upon exiting the work envelope, the loader places finished machined parts onto a Toellner-supplied conveyor leading to an accumulation table or other accumulation system specified for the application. Shuttle Nest for Loading between Centers

This end of arm tooling, or end effector, part handling option is necessary for parts that lie horizontally relative to the lathe centerline without assistance, are machined between centers, and held by a work holding device and tailstock center. These parts typically roll, slide, or hang by their heads on their own at a minimum incline of 20 degrees. Parts are presented to the spindle centerline while the tail stock advances to hold the part between centers. For unloading, the loader advances to the part catch position, the work holding device releases and the tailstock retracts, allowing part to fall into part catcher (or nest if a sensitive or heavy part). The loader then advances to the load position, the tail stock advances and work holding device closes. Upon exiting the work envelope, the loader places finished machined parts onto a Toellner-supplied conveyor leading to an accumulation table or other accumulation system specified for the application.
